THE RESURRECTION OF CARLO GESUALDO

A 2019 work for multi-tracked woodwind ensemble (sop sax, sop sax, alto sax, alto sax, tenor sax, tenor sax, bari sax, bari sax, Eb contra-alto clarinet, bass clar, Bb clarinet, alto clarinet, flute.

The piece revisits a selection of harmonic extracts from Gesualdo’s madrigals. This is an immersive music installation with moving parts played through a dome of speakers, the haunting chromatic voicings of Gesualdo are given flight, movement and melodic improvisation in this immersive live interpretation which premiered at The Model, Sligo on 20th Sept 2019 as part of Culture Night.
